SUMMARY:The Inclusive Museum Conference: What Museums Post Pandemic?
DESCRIPTION:What Museums Post Pandemic?\nVisitors\nNo longer the universal individual citizen of our recent modern aspirations\, visitors of today are recognizably diverse.\nForms of Engagement\nWhat is the role today of the reader\, the viewer\, the audience\, the citizen\, the customer\, the patron?\nModalities of Representation\nThe emerging communications environment—in which image\, sound\, and word are all made of the same digital stuff—affords new openings for museums and new challenges. \nReimagining the Scholarly Conference\nTo support the range of options\, and flexibility needed in our current climate\, we will offer a blended conference experience. You do not need to commit either to a place-based or virtual presentation at the time of submission. You can present both ways\, or change your mode of the presentation if your preferences change. The choice to participate virtually could also be a moral decision – for the planet\, for security\, or when the financial burden of travel is too great. We aim to foster spaces that align with principles of social justice and community development.

SUMMARY:2021 ICEE Annual Conference
DESCRIPTION:From September 27 to October 1\, 2021\, the 2021 ICOM ICEE Annual Conference will be held in Geneva\, Switzerland\, in collaboration with the Museum of Art and History of the City of Geneva (MAH)\, and ICOM Switzerland. The preliminary plan features four days of keynote speeches\, panel sessions\, networking opportunities\, private visits to exhibitions and museum collections in Geneva\, and a one-day excursion to Lausanne.\nThe safety of our members\, participants\, partners\, and collaborators is our top priority. As we write this message\, it is our hope that we will be able to meet face to face in Geneva at the end of September. However\, with the ongoing uncertainties of the global pandemic\, along with travel restrictions\, we are aware that there is a chance face to face activities might not happen. Therefore\, the conference plan can be easily switched from an in-person event to a digital platform for a virtual conference\, just as we successfully did for the 2020 ICEE Virtual Conference. We will keep you informed.\nThe conference theme\, along with the call for papers and more exciting news about the 2021 conference will be announced in our April newsletter. Please save the date for the conference. We hope everyone will join us in for the 2021 ICEE Conference in Geneva\, face to face or digitally!\nA few sponsorship opportunities are available. SUMMARY:MUŻE.X: Shaping Museum Futures
DESCRIPTION:As museums navigate uncertain times\, some seek to look back in the hope that the new normal will recover the lost publics\, most of whom can only be reached online intermittently and in between lockdowns and restricted access procedures. Others have slowly but surely embarked on systemic change. This conference seeks to present the latest thinking\, actions\, and initiatives that modestly or radically depart from the traditional museum idea\, to rethink the museum of the future. We are keen on showcasing the latest developments in the museum landscape\, be they reactions to the COVID-19 pandemic\, conceptual initiatives that have been in the pipeline for a while\, or tangible projects happening and evolving in the now\, and which may well inform\, influence\, and define the museum of the future. We are particularly keen on showcasing the lessons learnt over the past year and the ways and means how these have been overcome. Yet\, we areUni also eager to create spaces for critical reflections that can help shape museum futures.

SUMMARY:CiMAM 2021 Annual Conference
DESCRIPTION:While the pandemic appears to be the most pressing challenge today\, it is merely a vector of more global political and environmental changes. The conference will address the roles of artists and museums in this dramatically changing global situation. How can artists be agents of change\, and museums be places to test proposals for the communities of the future? Can museums guide processes of political and/or technological solutions?\nDuring the three days of discussions\, the conference will focus on the two interconnected current crises of Xenophobia and Climate Change\, and the sometimes hidden or unexplored connections between the two.\nKeynote speakers and relevant case-study presentations will show how institutions\, artists\, and thinkers working together can provide practical laboratories concerning these emerging issues and offer methodological tools to combat discriminatory and nationalistic tendencies in an increasingly divisive and divided world.

SUMMARY:Capturing Staged Performance for the Screen
DESCRIPTION:In this webinar we’ll share case studies from producers and directors whose work involves reimagining staged work for viewing as a live stream\, on demand\, or on TV. Our speakers will discuss their approach to rethinking a performance to be captured on camera\, and how theatre production teams collaborate creatively and practically with peers from the world of digital\, tv\, and video.\nWe’ll consider planning for a capture\, and some of the key issues in production and post-production. We’ll discover how different production practices mesh together\, what perspectives each group bring\, and where and how they learn from one another.\nAnd now that audiences expect digitally distributed work\, we’ll also consider how theatres and performance companies have developed the expertise needed to deliver high quality captures\, and what more can be done to upskill the sector.

SUMMARY:Art Basel Conversations: Re-inventing the Institution? New Museum Leaders
DESCRIPTION:How to chart the future of an art museum while honoring or redressing its past\, is a complex challenge for any museum leaders\, but perhaps particularly delicate for newly appointed ones. New leadership brings opportunities to inject exciting ideas into an institution\, albeit under the scrutiny of communities\, trustees\, staff and artists. In this panel\, recent appointees to major institutions share how they approach these challenges\, as well as how they view the evolving role of the museum director in these turbulent times.

SUMMARY:Art Basel Conversations: Immersive Installations? Digital Experiences in the Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Developments in digital technology have seen exhibition spaces welcoming increasingly large-scale\, interactive and immersive installations. Beyond the initial spectacle in space\, what strategies are artists using to transport viewers? From the perspectives of artists or the newly established Superblue\, Miami\, this panel considers what such installations reveal about technology’s growing influence on reality. Can these works also raise awareness around the politics of algorithms\, digital access and technology’s impact on ecology?

Join Jing Culture & Commerce for a webinar that looks back at 2021’s key culturetech activations\, trends\, and events\, and how they might point the way forward in 2022. We’re excited to be joined by Bernadine Bröcker Wieder\, CEO of Vastari\, Brendan Ciecko\, Founder and CEO of Cuseum\, and Anna Lowe\, Co-Founder and Director of Partnerships at Smartify\, who will be sharing insights from their unique vantage points.

SUMMARY:The Art Museum in the Digital Age – 2022 International Online Conference
DESCRIPTION:The Belvedere Research Center is continuing its conference series on the digital transformation of art museums with its fourth event on the topic. The COVID-19 pandemic\, and our resultant inability to experience proximity to people and objects\, has given the matter additional “virulence” in museums. Although the topic of digitization was gaining ground before the pandemic\, the measures taken against the virus created a very special experimental arrangement in which the digital presence of museums was no longer merely a possible extension of exhibition spaces but rather the only way to reach the public. While the focus of our 2021 conference explored the premise of a crisis-induced return to the museum’s own collections\, this time it shifts to questions beyond binary concepts\, such as media specificity\, hybridity\, and mixed reality. In five thematic blocks\, the lectures of the online conference by international experts deal with how the digital and the analog can be productively\, conceptually\, and aesthetically interwoven in a museum setting.
