SUMMARY:MCN 2020 VIRTUAL: Sustainability: Preserve/Progress
DESCRIPTION:What sustains us? The conference theme for MCN 2020 VIRTUAL—an experience like no other previous conference—is Sustainability: Preserve/Progress. Together\, we will explore the tension between transformation and longevity. Sustainability has many facets—technological\, financial\, environmental\, cultural\, social\, and personal. We recognize the increasingly fraught nature of sustainability—amplified now as we navigate global crises in health\, labor\, climate change\, decolonization\, and more. Let’s confront these issues\, retool our skills\, reconnect with one another\, and work together for a more equitable digital future in museums.

SUMMARY:Europeana 2020 Crisis\, Change and Culture
DESCRIPTION:CRISIS\, CHANGE AND CULTURE\n\n\n2020 is not the year we thought it was going to be. A global pandemic has changed our day-to-day lives. The Covid crisis has brought home how connected our lives are across the globe\, while the injustices and societal inequalities that exist between them have been thrown into sharp relief. This demands a response from us. Above all\, this year has shown us that we need to build more coherent\, coordinated and effective approaches to dealing with the challenges facing society\, whether it is a short-lived natural disaster\, a pandemic\, or the ongoing battle to combat climate change.\nThis is as true for the cultural heritage sector as it is for our wider society .\nIn recent months\, culture has shown to be a compelling force: people turned to digital technology and communication to share culture and come together as families\, in friendship groups and as communities. As we move through and on from these crises\, how can digital culture create meaningful and positive change in our society?\nNow is the time to look critically at the role of cultural heritage\, and reimagine it.\nEuropeana 2020 builds on that momentum to explore how – together – we can develop an open\, knowledgeable and creative society.

SUMMARY:The Taste Of Art
DESCRIPTION:It has long been an accepted belief that a museum is a temple of art. These days\, however\, priorities of museums have shifted from storing exhibits and expanding their collections to attracting the attention of various audiences.\nIncreasingly more often\, museums seek to become cultural institutions of interest. In their turn\, additional museum services\, such as cafes and restaurants play an important role in positioning the museum as an accessible place for family recreation\, meetings of friends and business negotiations.\nIt is an obvious fact that cafes and restaurants in museums help these institutions gain additional profits. However\, do these structural subdivisions of the museum serve not only the commercial but also the representative function? Are cafes and restaurants in museums only places for museum visitors to have a quick snack\, or can they serve as independent recreation spaces? Should cafes and restaurants in museums be incorporated into museum expositions? Do museum restaurants and cafes also possess some specific features?

SUMMARY:Cities & Museums Webinar Forum - 4th Session
DESCRIPTION:The creation of social and economic networks for the cultural and artistic establishment in times of crisis\nGiven the reduction in public subsidies\, it is necessary for civil society to get involved and participate in the conservation\, research and dissemination of artistic heritage\, as well as in its production. We are interested in knowing the different formulas and approaches adopted by both public and private museums in Spain and beyond. Museums and cultural centers have the opportunity\, in this digital era\, to intensify the provision of services to the artistic sector and society\, both to local and global audiences\, and even to redefine their functions\, mission and vision.
