SUMMARY:The Art Museum in the Digital Age – 2022 International Online Conference
DESCRIPTION:The Belvedere Research Center is continuing its conference series on the digital transformation of art museums with its fourth event on the topic. The COVID-19 pandemic\, and our resultant inability to experience proximity to people and objects\, has given the matter additional “virulence” in museums. Although the topic of digitization was gaining ground before the pandemic\, the measures taken against the virus created a very special experimental arrangement in which the digital presence of museums was no longer merely a possible extension of exhibition spaces but rather the only way to reach the public. While the focus of our 2021 conference explored the premise of a crisis-induced return to the museum’s own collections\, this time it shifts to questions beyond binary concepts\, such as media specificity\, hybridity\, and mixed reality. In five thematic blocks\, the lectures of the online conference by international experts deal with how the digital and the analog can be productively\, conceptually\, and aesthetically interwoven in a museum setting.

SUMMARY:The Year In Digital Innovations: From NFTs To Creative Tech
DESCRIPTION:The past year has been transformative for museums. Emerging from a global lockdown\, cultural institutions have innovated with creative technologies and retooled their digital strategies to better reconnect with audiences. The hybrid landscape emerged\, immersive experiences have boomed\, and NFTs arrived as a radically digital-first medium — all of which presented museums with new opportunities to expand and enrich their programs.\nSo how have museums met the challenges and possibilities of 2021? Join Jing Culture & Commerce for a webinar that looks back at 2021’s key culturetech activations\, trends\, and events\, and how they might point the way forward in 2022. We’re excited to be joined by Bernadine Bröcker Wieder\, CEO of Vastari\, Brendan Ciecko\, Founder and CEO of Cuseum\, and Anna Lowe\, Co-Founder and Director of Partnerships at Smartify\, who will be sharing insights from their unique vantage points.

SUMMARY:Colloquia for DAM Leaders: New Boundaries in Museums
DESCRIPTION:Uplift your professional practice and join us for a webinar exploring contemporary issues around museum equity\, reparation\, and their digital dimensions. We’ll explore and witness incremental shifts moving the museum field forward with bold new approaches to how digital asset and collections management supports these innovations.\nFirst\, social justice and DEI museum leader Monica O. Montgomery will discuss museum remedy: processes for engagement and repair\, with guidance for equitable strategies in an evolving landscape of return. We then examine case studies of museums as better neighbors\, sharing perspectives of three curators\, working to boost social awareness around origins of sculptural and sacred items from Native American and African communities. Current exhibitions from the University of Michigan Museum of Art and a project partnership between the Anchorage Museum / Chickaloon Village Tribal Council are vibrant case studies\, redefining ethics\, intellectual property\, and best practices around remedy.

SUMMARY:Art Basel Conversations: Immersive Installations? Digital Experiences in the Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Developments in digital technology have seen exhibition spaces welcoming increasingly large-scale\, interactive and immersive installations. Beyond the initial spectacle in space\, what strategies are artists using to transport viewers? From the perspectives of artists or the newly established Superblue\, Miami\, this panel considers what such installations reveal about technology’s growing influence on reality. Can these works also raise awareness around the politics of algorithms\, digital access and technology’s impact on ecology?

SUMMARY:MCG Museums+Tech 2021: Data Tales
DESCRIPTION:Data\, information\, statistics. For better or worse they are part and parcel of our world\, gathered and used as an influence in decision making\, or in defence of a decision made. The pandemic has probably been the most data rich epidemic in human history\, and we are all familiar with how the reading of it altered throughout. The collection and use of data is itself not neutral\, and can be used to fight causes. Our own museum world is awash with data\, and that is increasingly becoming ‘joined up’ with moves such as ‘Towards a National Collection’. Collections of data in themselves can be regarded as collections in their own right\, rather than data about something else.\nWith these perennial questions about data\, combined with the increasing scrutiny of data and shift in how museums may identify themselves and their audiences after the pandemic\, this year’s conference is calling to discuss our relationship with data. We want to talk about how our sector is using it\, what insights it has brought to our work\, and how to use it. We are interested in the collection and curation aspects\, how it affects interpretation and communication.

SUMMARY:XR Platforms for Digital Storytelling: Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:You’ve likely heard of Virtual Reality (VR) but what about Extended Reality (XR)? Extended reality is the umbrella term for the immersive digital technologies that blend the boundary between ‘virtual’ and ‘real’ worlds.\nVirtual exhibition tours and multi-media wall labels are just some of the ways museums and galleries are using XR technology.\nIn this webinar\, Flying Arts Communications and Marketing Coordinator Odette Miller will facilitate a panel discussion with collaborators of Flying Arts’ XR 50th Anniversary project\, Flying Arts: Paint the Town to share the storytelling capacities of this new technology.\nChief Product Officer and Co-Founder of XR platform Holoscribe\, Marcus Callon\, Visual Artist Erin Dunne and Flying Art’s Digital Engagement Project Coordinator Bobbi-Lea Dionysius will discuss the capabilities of XR platforms and the artistic considerations of creating new media content.

SUMMARY:Capturing Staged Performance for the Screen
DESCRIPTION:In this webinar we’ll share case studies from producers and directors whose work involves reimagining staged work for viewing as a live stream\, on demand\, or on TV. Our speakers will discuss their approach to rethinking a performance to be captured on camera\, and how theatre production teams collaborate creatively and practically with peers from the world of digital\, tv\, and video.\nWe’ll consider planning for a capture\, and some of the key issues in production and post-production. We’ll discover how different production practices mesh together\, what perspectives each group bring\, and where and how they learn from one another.\nAnd now that audiences expect digitally distributed work\, we’ll also consider how theatres and performance companies have developed the expertise needed to deliver high quality captures\, and what more can be done to upskill the sector.

An international Forum will traditionally bring together Russian and foreign experts\, explorers\, practical workers and managers. The event’s architecture is formed on the principle of defining the roles of main actors ensuring technological leadership: state\, society\, business and global community. The main topic of IV International Scientific Forum – “Technological Leadership: looking beyond the Horizon” – is connected with creating the image of future which will reflect an optimal balance between digital technologies\, “green” economy and both social safety and living environment comfort. The solution of such global questions causes the necessity of developing mechanisms providing and coordinating state\, scientific\, educational\, societal\, industrial and business efforts\, and which will let Russia not only to follow worldwide trends of low-carbon development\, but also to create these trends.\nИсточник: https://www.rea.ru/en/events/Pages/step-into-the-future.aspx © ФГБОУ ВО «РЭУ им. SUMMARY:Interactive Immersion: The Future of VR
DESCRIPTION:The concept of “immersion” in exhibitions using virtual reality headsets can be categorised as an isolating experience rather than a communal one. A person\, on their own\, wearing a headset to immerse themselves into another world. But increasingly\, virtual reality producers take the immersion to the next level using interactive technology. Wearing a headset\, you can travel together inside Notre Dame\, to Egyptian tombs\, try Ayahuasca\, dissolve into a tree or wander through the history of cinema.\nIn this webinar\, we speak to exhibition producers\, Emissive\, Atlas V and Marshmallow Laser Feast leveraging the newest technology to create immersive\, multi-player\, unforgettable experiences. When an experience can be shared real-time between people in the same physical space\, you can travel anywhere. Is that the future of tourism?

SUMMARY:ACM SIGGRAPH: Museums Immersive Experiences and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:There is a quiet revolution evolving in the realm of experiential museum design globally. Often called “Immersives”\, some of these digital-based experiences incorporate extended reality (XR) techniques such as augmented reality and virtual reality. Others employ large-scale\, sensory-engaging\, projected environments or domes that offer unique interactivity and many selfie opportunities to visitors. All generate feelings of discovery and what might be called “ah hah” moments.\nOur program focuses on an intriguing subset in the Immersives arena\, namely\, experiences focused on supporting cultural heritage preservation and historical issues of social importance.\nWe showcase several leading innovators behind pushing the creative technologies forward on this mission. Their projects have extended reach and utilize immersive display\, 360°degree panoramic content\, augmented reality (AR)\, spoken word interactivity\, natural language processing\, AI\, big data visualization and more.

SUMMARY:Speculative Values: Between the Institution and the NFT
DESCRIPTION:What can an institution become when it is organized with the network at its core? This question\, which has been a topic of concern for art institutions since the rise of the public internet\, is newly relevant thanks to the ascendance of blockchain-based forms of social organizing at a time of ongoing crisis for many legacy institutions.\nCollecting art\, making grants\, and other functions long performed by arts organizations are increasingly being taken on by blockchain-based digital cooperatives known as DAOs (decentralized autonomous organizations)\, which are organized using tools such as NFTs (non-fungible tokens\, a means of certifying digital assets on the blockchain). Co-organized by the New Museum’s digital art affiliate Rhizome and interdisciplinary contemporary arts organization Kadist\, this event asks to what extent the work of institutions might be propelled forward using these new models.\nGathering artists\, developers\, and thinkers for a series of conversations and presentations\, the afternoon-long event will also consider the apparent contradictions inherent in these forms\, which are both financialized and cooperative; how these relate to the contradictions involved in traditional institutional models; and how these contradictions might play out in the future.
