SUMMARY:Cities & Museums Webinar Forum - 4th Session
DESCRIPTION:The creation of social and economic networks for the cultural and artistic establishment in times of crisis\nGiven the reduction in public subsidies\, it is necessary for civil society to get involved and participate in the conservation\, research and dissemination of artistic heritage\, as well as in its production. We are interested in knowing the different formulas and approaches adopted by both public and private museums in Spain and beyond. Museums and cultural centers have the opportunity\, in this digital era\, to intensify the provision of services to the artistic sector and society\, both to local and global audiences\, and even to redefine their functions\, mission and vision.

SUMMARY:Cultural and Creative Sectors and Local Development
DESCRIPTION:What is the issue?\nThe direct and indirect impacts of culture on local development are largely achieved through cultural participation and access of diverse groups of population to cultural amenities and activities. Cultural participation is linked to a number of areas of social and economic impact: social inclusion\, education and life-long learning\, well-being and health. High levels of cultural participation might be conducive to a favourable social environment for cultural and creative entrepreneurship\, thereby enhancing the impact of cultural and creative production on job creation. In many cities and regions\, cultural participation and specialisations in the cultural and creative sectors are evolving\, and being used to tackle and societal challenges (e.g. climate change) from new angles\, favouring resilience\, skills creation and prosocial behavioural changes. High levels of cultural participation also create the premises for a stronger support of cultural spending and cultural policies from the public opinion\, thus contributing to the financial and social sustainability of cultural and creative sectors. \nThe OECD-EC Policy Webinar\nThere is however still a lack of capacity at subnational levels to measure cultural participation and design instruments that can effectively increase it. This policy webinar will provide an opportunity to learn from latest academic evidence on the economic and social impacts of cultural participation\, approaches to better capture it at regional level and instruments to increase it. The event shall also showcase a number of interesting European and non-European cases in this regard.

SUMMARY:Cultural Alliances: The Imperatives and Challenges of Collaboration
DESCRIPTION:For the third iteration of Museum 2050’s annual symposium\, the platform looks to explore the concept of collaboration\, both in its proliferation in recent partnerships amongst museums\, particularly in China\, and as a centerpiece of creative production. We wish to ask the fundamental question: why collaborate? What is the purpose of these cultural alliances? Whether they are between distinct institutions\, artists\, professionals\, spaces or disciplines\, what is gained when we collaborate? What is lost? How can we best foster collaboration? This year\, Museum 2050 seeks to broaden the discussion beyond the realm of the Chinese context in order to investigate why museums make the decision to go beyond their walls to forge partnerships\, both with other actors in the arts and those in other fields.

DESCRIPTION:The 2020 conference asks what role digital can play for museums in a crisis. How can museums and other cultural organisations respond to crisis\, both in terms of their collections\, programmes\, and internally? What role can digital play in responding to crisis and how might it be used to respond to issues of colonisation\, access and inclusion? The MCG’s annual conference brings together practitioners\, researchers\, funders\, and those from related cultural heritage and technology sectors from around the world.

SUMMARY:Digital Engagement Series #1: Digital Collaboration: Context and Needs
DESCRIPTION:Digital Engagement Series \nIf it wasn’t evident prior\, the pandemic has emphasized the nonprofit arts sector’s need to dismantle the silos prohibiting collaboration in digital engagement. In recognition of this\, the Association of African American Museums\, American Alliance of Museums\, Association of Art Museum Curators\, Association of Art Museum Directors\, Association of Academic Museums and Galleries\, Museum Association of the Caribbean\, and the Museum Computer Network have aligned\, for the first time\, to present an online series bringing together their constituencies to advance the museum community’s digital projects. Together the associations have partnered with the School of Museum Studies\, University of Leicester and their ‘One by One’ project\, a multi-partner international initiative\, gathering together cultural organizations\, policy makers\, academics\, professional bodies\, support agencies\, and communities of practice\, to build digitally confident art organizations by helping them better define\, improve\, measure and embed the digital literacy of their staff and volunteers in all roles and at all levels.\nThrough this program\, we hope to offer a deeper understanding of the current successes\, to emphasize the necessary aspects of team building and shared accountability in digital projects; and to share research and findings through the One-by-One initiatives.\nOrganized by AAMC in collaboration with our partners\, please contact programs@artcurators.org with any questions.

SUMMARY:What is a Museum? Part 2: The Function of Collecting
DESCRIPTION:The defining essential unity in museums are the functions of collecting\, preserving\, documenting\, researching\, exhibiting and in other ways\, communicating and interpreting evidence of human culture and history for the benefit of everyone. Should our collections shift as our communities do? In a world aimed towards political correctness\, how do we address collections as a result of power and colonization? The elephant in the room … deaccession!

SUMMARY:(Asia) Virtual Event: 2021 Culture + Trends Report: Happiness Reset
DESCRIPTION:What defines the post-2020 consumer?\n2020 has been eventful to say the least\, but amidst the crises we’ve witnessed\, there is a silver lining. Confronted with a global pandemic we collectively opened our doors to new attitudes\, behaviors and values\, changing how we seek and attain happiness\, a happiness reset you could say. Happiness has always been the holy grail of human life\, yet the events of the last year have caused a shift in how we achieve it and will try to do so in the future.\nAs experts in human behavior\, we are often asked: what is next?\nTo answer this\, we use a unique methodology\, combining a macro analysis and qualitative exploration with our leading-edge consumer network\, to identify 14 trends that have shaped the post-2020 consumer. A final stage of quantification by 18\,000 consumers in 18 markets\, enables us to understand the strength of attitude and behavior of consumers in relation to each trend.\nWe explore these trends and the implications for brands in our 2021 Culture + Trends Report: Happiness Reset.

SUMMARY:VRAR Chicago: The Next Evolution in Arts & Culture
DESCRIPTION:Even during travel restrictions\, augmented and virtual reality allow us to experience arts & culture from far away places. While it will never be a replacement for seeing the Mona Lisa or the Great Wall of China in person\, VR and AR can bring these masterpieces right into your home.\nPrograms like “Let’s Create! Pottery VR\,” “Tilt Brush\,” and “Kingspray Graffiti Simulator” allow our imaginations to run wild and try new art forms without the mess. Augmented reality can make works of art come alive\, jump out of their frames and tell their story. Even programs as “simple” as Google Earth VR can shrink the world and allow people to walk a distant street\, admire the local architecture and even observe the remote fashion trends.\nImmersive technologies make the world seem both approachably smaller and larger than life with the wealth of possibilities to explore. Join us as we explore how arts and culture are being made more accessible through augmented and virtual reality.

SUMMARY:The Art Museum in the Digital Age – 2021
DESCRIPTION:The Belvedere Research Center organizes its third international conference on the digital transformation of the art museum. The 2021 edition will focus on online collections and the re-contextualization of the museum object in the digital universe.\nDuring the COVID lock down\, the call for online availability of museum objects became louder. Many museums responded immediately by putting existing content online and introducing tools to enable virtual visits. This push again highlights the potential of online collections: they allow both expert and lay audiences to explore and enjoy the collection\, either as a goal in itself\, or as a means to plan a visit. However\, the value\, or at least the usability\, of the digitized materials (i.e.\, images and information) in the web’s massive eco-system depends to a large extent on their uniqueness and trustworthiness.\nFollowing this rationale\, the five-day event will gather contributions addressing primarily – but not exclusively – the following topics.
