Art Central, a leading contemporary art fair, announced its highly anticipated return to Hong Kong’s iconic Central Harbourfront for its 2024 edition from March 28-31.

The fair, a highlight of Hong Kong Art Week, will showcase 95 galleries – 70% from Asia – in a bespoke waterfront structure. This marks a significant comeback after COVID-related disruptions, with Art Central reinstating its full scale, programming and location.

“Art Central’s unwavering confidence in Hong Kong as the cultural epicenter of Asia is stronger than ever, as evidenced by the calibre of galleries and artistic projects featured in 2024,” said Fair Director Corey Andrew Barr.

A key addition is the Neo sector, curated by Enoch Cheng, focused on emerging galleries and undiscovered artists. The 11 Neo participants include regional newcomers like Tokyo’s biscuit gallery and Shanghai’s Cub_ism_Artspace, providing a launch pad for rising talents.

The fair’s Central sector brings bold programming by established names like Bonian Space, showing Chinese artists in dialogue with global peers, and Spain’s VETA, exhibiting painters exploring art history. Over a third of galleries will mount solo shows, like Hong Kong’s Contemporary by Angela Li featuring painter Ken Chan King Long.

Also back is the popular Yi Tai Sculpture and Installation Projects sector. Sprawling works by Sangsun Bae, Rony Plesl, Andrea Samory, Sam Shendi and Wataru Yamakami will be displayed.

“We’re enthusiastic about the extensive programme and committed to fostering cultural connectivity through art,” said Christine Ip, CEO Greater China of lead partner UOB.

The fair’s return cements Hong Kong’s centrality as an international arts hub and Art Central’s reputation as a discovery platform.

“With new sectors and ambitious gallery projects, Art Central reinforces its position as an exciting destination for serious collectors, curators and art lovers during Hong Kong Art Week,” Barr said.
