Digital artist Beeple (Mike Winkelmann) recently announced a collaboration with Charleston, South Carolina’s Gibbes Museum of Art for the second Beeple Studios event, scheduled for April 29 as part of the Art Charleston festival. The exhibit will showcase a curated selection of artwork from new and returning artists, while Beeple himself will create a new piece for his “Everydays” collection during a live performance. Proceeds from ticket sales will support Gibbes Museum’s efforts to offer events and programming to the Charleston community.
The celebration will take place in Beeple’s 50,000-square-foot art studio, which opened in March and boasts a 13,000-square-foot gallery and an additional 13,000 square feet of experiential space. Beeple’s stated intention for the studio is to showcase outstanding art and communities while hosting events that educate and entertain around web3 and digital art.
The first Beeple Studios event, in collaboration with Christie’s, was well-received by attendees. The immersive experience featured works by influential NFT artists, such as XCOPY, Dee Kay Motion, Coldie, and FVCKRENDER. Beeple himself contributed by creating 51 new artworks in just over an hour. Prioritizing enjoyment over formality, the inaugural event featured celebrity impersonators of Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and other frequent subjects of Beeple’s art, who mingled and posed for photos with guests. Large TV screens adorned the walls, contributing to the surreal atmosphere of the occasion.
