Bridging the latest in digital technology with traditional art, the Chris Burden Estate, in partnership with TRLab, recently unveiled “Beyond Limits: Unrealized Artworks of Chris Burden.” Launched on December 15, this innovative digital platform provides a unique opportunity to explore the unmaterialized works of the late American artist, Chris Burden, known for his provocative and pioneering art.

Audrey Ou, CEO and Co-Founder of TRLab, highlights the project’s goal of making art history accessible to a new generation: “At TRLab, our primary goal is to make fine art and art history more accessible to digital-centric audiences. We do this by integrating elements of arts education, gaming, collecting, and community into one online experience.” She adds, “With ‘Beyond Limits’, our first digital collaboration with the Chris Burden Estate, participants are invited to delve deeper into the life and works of this pioneering American artist.”

The project marks an important step in art preservation and education, using interactive design and blockchain technology to create a virtual space for engaging with Burden’s art. “Beyond Limits” features six digital artworks inspired by Burden’s unrealized projects and a dedicated short-form digital film about “Xanadu,” his envisioned cityscape.

Yayoi Shioniori, Executive Director of the Chris Burden Estate, expresses the educational mission of the initiative: “The Chris Burden Estate is honored to partner with TRLab on ‘Beyond Limits: Unrealized Artworks of Chris Burden’ to actualize some of Burden’s works with today’s technology.” Shioniori sees the project as a way to connect audiences with Burden’s legacy: “We hope this digital initiative educates both new and seasoned audiences about Chris Burden’s works and supports the Estate’s efforts in stewarding Burden’s legacy into the future.”

This initiative arrives on the heels of TRLab’s recent achievement of securing $5 million in seed funding, underlining the company’s commitment to expanding its digital art endeavors.

Accessible at chrisburden.trlab.com, “Beyond Limits” offers a self-paced, blockchain-based journey where participants can track their progress and unlock achievement badges in the form of digital tokens. The platform also provides collecting options for digital art enthusiasts, with artworks available for purchase to support the conservation and potential realization of Burden’s unrealized works.
