Pop-Art pioneer Derek Boshier is set to present two new bodies of work at Gazelli Art House in an exhibition that offers a reflective journey through his artistic legacy and a sharp social commentary. The exhibition, which runs from 13 October to 18 November, 2023, features “7 Self Portraits” and “Sit/ Stand/ Knell – Global Warming, The Factory, and The Saints.”
In “7 Self Portraits,” Boshier reimagines his artistic journey, intertwining life and art to redefine the notion of a self-portrait. Each work is intricately woven with images and themes from a specific transformative year in Boshier’s life, providing an intimate depiction of self.

“Sit/ Stand/ Knell – Global Warming, The Factory, and The Saints” offer astute social commentary across intricate drawings. These works are simultaneously personal and universal, tackling complex subjects with as much delicacy and honesty as their pencil on paper depiction.
The exhibition coincides with a survey exhibition of Boshier’s work at Wolverhampton Art Gallery, “Derek Boshier: Image in Revolt,” and the publication of a major new monograph, “Derek Boshier: Reinventor,” published by Lund Humphries. The book, edited by Helen Little, features commentaries and reflections by leading contemporary artists, academics, curators, and writers.
Boshier’s variegated practice is coined by astute and wry observations of popular culture. Among the first exponents of British Pop Art, Boshier distinguished himself with his trademark brand of satirical social commentary. His work has appeared in many museum exhibitions, including the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; Tate Britain and British Museum, London; Brooklyn Museum, New York; Centre Pompidou, Paris.
